What is the goal of the game?
Entertainment value; fast, speed-focused gameplay with a focus on arcade-style enemy slaying. Environmental aspects will encourage fast gameplay with the ultimate goal of survival.
What is the story or theme or emotion? Ideas on style and design.
Influenced by the Doom franchise with a rustic, industrial take in a modern setting. This is an easier theme to arrange assets for, especially when considering textures.
What does the game world look like?
Linear level design with a focus on an environment which helps guide the character through the action. Industrial themes allow for complex level design with a lot of verticality, rotating platforms, interactable objects, etc.
How does the player control the game?
Standard arena FPS controls, WASD movements, interact keys, space for jumping.
Is there a user interface?
Yes there will be a UI for all of the menus that the player will interact with in the game, such as the main menu, pause menu, weapon menu, and level completion menus. There may be more than this by the final build but this is what we have in mind so far.
What other elements are there (NPCs, collectibles, dangers)?
There will be dangers both scripted (enemies) with AI and environmental dangers like explosive barrels, pits, traps, etc.
What scripts need to be programmed?
At a minimum there are going to be scripts designated for game logic, movement/interactions, camera, and a simple AI. Environmental interactions such as rotating or swinging platforms will need to be coded as well.
What is your minimum playable game?
Our minimum playable game will be functional (environmental interactions which suit the theme of the game, all character actions functioning, etc.) and include at least one complete level, ideally two, to demonstrate these concepts.
Who has ownership for which scripts and assets and which parts of the game (each person needs to have ownership for a reasonably sized script)?
First person shooting, aiming, camera work/scripting - Jesse
World-building, environmental assets and scripting - Kyle
Character-related animation, enemy assets and design - Dawson
While each player will likely contribute to several aspects of the project, these are the areas which each person will be responsible for quality control in
What do you plan to do for each build?
The first build will be the minimum playable game as described above, which will act as a sort of demo, and our second build will go off of that and the feedback we received. Our final build will include changes based off of other groups’ feedback and we will also fix any bugs that still exist.
When are your regular meetings times?
6:00pm Tuesday/Thursday
